Our I
2DSR Research Experience for Undergraduates (
I2DSR REU) Summer program will provide opportunities for undergraduate students to conduct interdisciplinary research during a
virtual 10-week synchronous program.
The program aims to support new undergraduate researchers during their first research experience.
Participants will attain an immersive research experience in which they will participate in training and research activities within the context of their research project, participants will develop and apply practical research skills, like reading and interpreting research papers, conducting literature reviews, and analyzing and presenting data.
Students will hone their research comprehension and communication skills, develop an understanding of research ethics, and build their confidence in their identity as a researcher.
The program will be thematic designed to apply knowledge and skills of data science and machine learning to real world problems from an interdisciplinary perspective.
This REU
does not require prior research experience.
"Bridging Disciplines, Advancing Data Science." — I2DSR
Students will gain research experience in problem-solving by exploring the foundations of research (
i.e., read existing peer-reviewed works, oversee a literature review, steer experiments,
apply data science technologies in data collection, perform ETL (data extraction, transformation and loading), usher exploratory data analysis (EDA) and leverage existing machine
learning models for modeling. Moreover, over the duration of the REU program, participants will enhance their research, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Additionally, they will explore the societal, ethical, and cultural implications addresses by their projects.
NOTE: Students
DO NOT need to hold any specific nationality, nor do they need to identify as any specific gender to be considered for this program; however, they
MUST be attending a North American-based institution.
